Blog Action Day - Poverty (How Will You Make A Difference)

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well. Today is Blog Action Day. The focus this year is on poverty. Poverty is something that is experienced in every culture in the world. But why is this? One of my favorite quotes that I remind myself of every day is, "There's more than enough for everyone".

The Universe has provided us with everything that we could ever need for our existence on this planet. There should be no poverty. The key is to remember that we are all connected. We all stem from the Source that has always been and will always be. Since this is so, there is no lack for anything.

There are many cases in which people cannot work for themselves because of circumstances beyond their control, such as injury or disabilities. These people have it tougher and may fall victim to poverty. But even in theses cases it shouldn't be so.

We as a global community need to look out for each other. I am you and you are me. Because of this, every time you help someone, you are strengthening the whole. If you see someone in need, help them out. Find a charity that you can volunteer for. There are so many ways in which we can help out our fellow man. A simple smile can change someone's outlook on life and give them the will to live or find a way to better themselves.

Today is Blog Action Day, but this should be something that we observe everyday. Let it become a part of who you are. Practice helping at least on person a day. Anything, no matter how small, will make a difference.

We stem from an all perfect Source, so for every situation, there is a perfect solution. Be still and let the Universe speak to you. It will tell you how you can help the masses.

Have a great day exploring ways in which to reach out to your fellow man. Be creative. I guarantee that you will improve the life of others and yours by being a caring and giving person. Thanks for listening, and many blessings!

Peace Day: Make Your Pledge To Peace

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well. I just wanted to give you heads up on a very important event that will be taking place on Sunday September 21st. The event is Peace Day. I learned of the event through Peace One Day on myspace.
Hosted by MyspaceTaggers.com
MyspaceTaggers.com

Peace Day is the dream of Jeremy Gilley. In 1998 he set out to talk to the leaders of the world to establish a day of peace. A day when there would be a complete cease fire between every nation. It is a day on which everyone should be focused on the message of peace.

I am all for a day like this. Hopefully, instead of just a day, we can have a Peace Week, and a Peace Month, which will hopefully lead to peace every day of the year. It's a dream we should be all striving for and helping to promote.

Mother Theresa was approached to join many anti-war rallies and she always refused. She would say, "Point me in the direction of a peace rally and I'll be there." She knew that an anti-war movement would bring about more war.

We have a lot of wars taking place today. The "war on drugs", "the war on poverty", "the war on terrorism". It seems as though we are only losing these wars. The reason is because "war begets war". So by using words such as "war" we are only enforcing the negative feelings associated with war. The more you push against something the more it persist.

A peace rally takes away the negative and only focuses on the positive. With a peace rally, you are not fighting or destroying anything. Rather, you are building and growing the positive consciousness that is in all of us.

I encourage each of you to join the Peace Day efforts. Make an effort to promote peace on September 21st. When we have millions of people focused on peace at the same time, we will send out a great wave a positive energy. Hopefully this energy will be felt by the leaders of the world and they will realize that peace is the only way.

You can visit Peace Peace One Day to make your commitment to the Peace Day movement. I'm number 16,499 under Quoteguy. My pledge to peace is, "I will destroy an enemy by first making him my friend". I chose this because it is something I can do every day and not just on a designated day. The important thing to remember is to strive for peace each and every day.

I would love to hear your commitments to peace. Leave me a comment on how you will promote peace on September 21st and every day there after. This our planet.
our home. We have to preserve it for future generations. Let's help to ensure that peace will be the main focus of every human being living and soon to be born. Many blessings, and thanks for listening.

Happy Earth Day! (Ten Tips)

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well. Happy Earth Day. Today is the day to celebrate our planet. We need to be mindful of the place that we call home. We must take better care of our habitat. If we don't we will soon have to find another place to live.

Use this day as a reminder to take care of the earth. It should become a daily practice. The following are some great tips to help preserve the earths' resources. Begin to employ these energy saving tactics. If enough people adhere to these practices, the planet will be a much cleaner and safer place to live.

Remember that we are connected to nature. There has to be a balance between humans and nature. If we exhaust the planet of its resources it will no longer be able sustain us as a people. Love your planet. Respect your planet. Give back to your planet. Mother Earth will certainly return the favor ten fold. Have a great afternoon and thanks for listening. Blessings!

Ten things you can do this Earth Day
Canwest News Service

Published: Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Wondering how you can make a difference? Here are 10 things you can do to help the planet, whether it's Earth Day or not.

1. Leave your car at home for a day (or a week or a month) and try walking or biking. If work is too far away to walk, take public transit or carpool. One city bus eliminates the emissions of 40 cars.

2. Turn off the lights, the computer and the television when they are not in use. Using only highly efficient and money-saving appliances can reduce the electricity consumption of an average household to one-10th of the national average.

3. Try eating meat-free at least one day a week. A meat-based diet requires seven times more land than a plant-based diet. Livestock production is responsible for more climate change gasses than all the motor vehicles in the world.

4. Choose foods produced organically, locally and in season. Support your regional farmers and farming industry: buying locally and in season is better for the environment than buying foods that have been shipped hundreds of kilometres to your local market.

5. Put a composter in your backyard or use your green bin to reduce household waste. Composting organics has two key benefits: it reduces the amount of waste going to landfills and when added to your garden, helps nourish soil and plants.

6. Turn off your car's engine if stopped for more than 10 seconds. If every driver of a light-duty vehicle avoided idling by five minutes a day, collectively, we would save 1.8 million litres of fuel per day, almost 4500 tonnes of GHG emissions.

7. Set your thermostat above room temperature in the summer and below room temperature in the winter. For each degree you adjust, you can save 5% on your utility bill and 1% on your energy use.

8. Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs). A CFL uses only 25% as much energy as an incandescent bulb and lasts 10 times longer.

9. The simple act of recycling has more impact on the environment than the average Canadian thinks. The amount of wood and paper North Americans throw away each year is enough to heat five million homes for 200 years.

10. This is a great opportunity to brag. Tell someone what you're doing to make the world a better place. Support the cause. Encourage them to get involved too.

Earth Hour...TURN OUT THAT LIGHT!

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well. Check out this video. Please take the time to participate. The World Wildlife Fund is encouraging us to turn off our lights for just one hour starting at 8PM your local time. This is a global event that will have a positive effect on our environment. For more information visit www9.earthhours.org

Do We Really Have To Pay A Federal Income Tax? Apparently Not

Hello friends,

Hope all is well. This video is part 1 in a series of 11. Take the time to view all 11 clips at Youtube. I encourage each of you to begin to look within yourselves for the truth. It is not the truth that the media and the government is feeding us. It's the truth "that pases all understanding." Another words, as soon as we stop trying to figure out what this existence all means and just sit in stillness for just a moment...........The truth will begin to emerge.

It is the truth that we are all connected stemming from one Source. We must unite as a global community. Not with anger, fear, or feelings of betrayal. But rather with compassion and forgiveness.

Violence begets violence. Greed begets more greed. Hatred breeds more of the same. On the other side, Love brings forth more to be loving for. Compassion promotes healing. Forgiveness encourages growth.

This optimistic view may seem unattainable. A dream even. But if enough people around the world would just make peace their primary focus, a change would begin to take place. If more people would just focus on prosperity for their neighbor, change would happen. We have a very strong "it's mine" mentality, and the government along with a few wealthy men are displaying this on a grand scale. This has to change.

Find love in yourself and then begin to spread it to other. Gandhi said, "We must become the change we want to see in the world." Heal yourself first and your reality will begin to shift towards the positive. Many blessings to you all. It is truly a pleasure and honor for me to be able to call you a friend.

Short Story About An Act Of Kindness

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well. Take a look at this short story and then the video that follows. Remember to find some way to perform an act of kindness. Opportunities will present itself. Be sure to be ready when it does. No act of kindness is too small. Many blessings, and thanks for listening.

No Small Act of Kindness
A panhandler shows me that nothing is too small or insignificant to effect change.
By Donna Wick

*Reprinted with permission from Chicken Soup for the Soul.

The day was Thankful Thursday, our "designated day" of service. It's a weekly tradition that my two little girls and I began years ago. Thursday has become our day to go out in the world and make a positive contribution. On this particular Thursday, we had no idea exactly what we were going to do, but we knew that something would present itself.

Driving along a busy Houston road, praying for guidance in our quest to fulfill our weekly Act of Kindness, the noon hour appropriately triggered hunger pangs in my two little ones. They wasted no time in letting me know, chanting, "McDonald's, McDonald's, McDonald's" as we drove along. I relented and began searching earnestly for the nearest McDonald's. Suddenly I realized that almost every intersection I passed through was occupied by a panhandler. And then it hit me! If my two little ones were hungry, then all these panhandlers must be hungry, too. Perfect! Our Act of Kindness had presented itself. We were going to buy lunch for the panhandlers.

After finding a McDonald's and ordering two Happy Meals for my girls, I ordered an additional 15 lunches and we set out to deliver them. It was exhilarating. We would pull alongside a panhandler, make a contribution, and tell him or her that we hoped things got better. Then we'd say, "Oh, by the way…here's lunch." And then we would varoom off to the next intersection.

It was the best way to give. There wasn't enough time for us to introduce ourselves or explain what we were going to do, nor was there time for them to say anything back to us. The Act of Kindness was anonymous and empowering for each of us, and we loved what we saw in the rear view mirror: a surprised and delighted person holding up his lunch bag and just looking at us as we drove off. It was wonderful!

We had come to the end of our "route" and there was a small woman standing there, asking for change. We handed her our final contribution and lunch bag, and then immediately made a U-turn to head back in the opposite direction for home. Unfortunately, the light caught us again and we were stopped at the same intersection where this little woman stood. I was embarrassed and didn't know quite how to behave. I didn't want her to feel obligated to say or do anything.

She made her way to our car, so I put the window down just as she started to speak. "No one has ever done anything like this for me before," she said with amazement. I replied, "Well, I'm glad that we were the first." Feeling uneasy, and wanting to move the conversation along, I asked, "So, when do you think you'll eat your lunch?"

She just looked at me with her huge, tired brown eyes and said, "Oh honey, I'm not going to eat this lunch." I was confused, but before I could say anything, she continued. "You see, I have a little girl of my own at home and she just loves McDonald's, but I can never buy it for her because I just don't have the money. But you know what…tonight she is going to have McDonald's!"

I don't know if the kids noticed the tears in my eyes. So many times I had questioned whether our Acts of Kindness were too small or insignificant to really effect change. Yet in that moment, I recognized the truth of Mother Teresa's words: "We cannot do great things - only small things with great love."

Conscious vs. Unonscious Living

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well. I've been reading a lot lately. I just finished The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle. I highly recommend reading this book.

"Our lives are not determined by what happens to us, but how we react to what happens."

In Tolle's book he talks about living in the NOW. He explains that in reality, neither the past or future ever exist. There is only ever, Right Now.

According to Tolle, there is Conscious living and Unconscious living. Being in a state of consciousness is what we should be striving for. It is a state in which you truly understand your "inward" self in relation to your "outward" self.

The way to live consciously is to first identify any unconscious behavior. For example. Say you are wanting to lose weight so that you can be healthier. This is a "conscious" decision because it is something that will be good for you.

Two days into your diet you decide to eat three Whoppers, fries, and coke. King Sized. This would be an example of an unconscious decision. You know that your decision is not a good one but still you do it. Unconscious behavior stems from memories of the past or looking to much into the future.

Eating three Whoppers is an activity, that in the past, brought you joy and satisfaction. Choosing to diet threatens your comfort level or "ego". I'm realizing that the ego is the biggest hindrance to anyone achieving any goal.

The ego wants you to be comfortable. It tries to tell you who you are. The ego says, "you will never lose weight." "Why even try. You'll lose your lunch buddies." "Everyone will criticize you." The ego has a very powerful voice and we tend to listen because we lack the necessary foundation to stand strong.

Tolle tells us to recognize unconscious behavior as soon as it arises. The second you hear those voices, recognize it as unconscious behavior. Recognizing unconsciousness brings you closer to conscious living.

This can be done with anything in your life that you are wanting to change. Say you are prone to fits of rage. As soon as you feel an episode coming, recognize it for what is is and move on. Once you recognize the behavior you will not act on it because you see that action as being unconscious.

So how will react this New Year when you start to hear the voices in your head. The ego is a very powerful thing, but can be controlled if you start to get to heart of what is feeding your ego. Identify what needs changing in your life and do it now. Live for the moment. Don't worry about the future. It doesn't exist. Don't live your life based on past experiences. It doesn't exist. All that exist is right now. That's all we have. Who cares what happened in the past. Who cares what is going to happen in the future. If you live for right NOW, the Universe has already provided everything that we could ever want or need.

Here's a quick video of some quotes by Ekhart Tolle. Apply the concepts to your life and living in the NOW will become totally natural for you. Many blessings, and thanks for listening.

Bloggers Unite By Building Your A.R.K.(Acts of Random Kindness)

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well. Today is Blogger's Unite Day.
It is a date on which we are to perform an act of kindness. This is something that I was happy to participate in. We should all strive to help others on a daily basis. We are all extension of One Source. This leads us to believe that we are all one in the same. When I look upon you, I look upon myself.

I talked about acts of kindness in my post, Build Your ARK. The A.R.K. stands for Act of Random Kindness. I think random acts of kindness are the best. They are not preconceived. There are no ulterior motives behind the action. It is spur of the moment. It is pure love.

These random acts of kindness is what inspires others to show someone else love. They will remember how good it felt to get help when they needed it, and will be quick to share those good feelings with someone as well.

About a month ago I was getting off the Metrorail, which is the train system in Miami. As I was walking through the turnstiles I noticed two women walking towards me. One of the women was really upset. She had forgotten her rail pass in the office and she didn't have any cash on her. What made it worse is that her friend didn't have any cash on her either.

She went into a tirade similar to my friends three year old daughter when she doesn't get what she wants. She began talking about how bad a day she was having. How this always happens to her. I thought she was going to have a heart attack right there. Her friend began to look around in embarrassment.

As it was I had $1.50 in quarters in my pocket. I took the money out and started to walk over to her. I could see that the two women were looking at me apprehensively. I walked up to her and gave her $1.50, the price of the fare. She had a look of amazement on her face. I just smiled and walked away. I could here them talking as I walked away. "I can't believe that just happened." "That never happens in Miami." She yelled after me and said "thank you." I didn't turn around even though I had heard her. Maybe I was going for affect, hoping she would think I was an Angel, because it seemed like she needed something that dramatic in her life to change her attitude.

Here's the best part of the story. Earlier in the day a stranger had given me a free pass for the metrorail because they weren't going to use it. I was thankful and happy because I had saved some money. Because someone showed me a random act of kindness, I was able to show someone else a random act of kindness. These random acts become infectious. It leaves you with a good feeling but more importantly you renew the faith of someone who may have been struggling in life. That random act may be the spark that someone needs to achieve something big.

Try to make it a point to show at least one Act Of Random Kindness a day. It's not that hard. Pass along the message, and soon people will be helping each other more and more each day. Eventually it will become natural to you and you won't even notice that you're doing it. It becomes who you are.

My act of kindness on this occasion is to show a little "link Love" to my friends at Blogcatalog and MyBlog Log. These are the two network communities that I frequent the most. I have been fortunate to come across some very creative blogs. Lots of unique ideas are being exchanged which is always a good thing.

I was starting to get tired as I was typing out all the links so I took a break. I decided to finish the book I was reading Warrior of the Light: A Manual by Paulo Coelho. When I finished the book I went back to typing. I noticed that someone had added me as a friend on Blogcatalog. When I went to his profile, I noticed that Paulo Coelho was his top friend. I don't believe in coincidences anymore. It was an obvious sign or omen as Coelho likes to say, that I need to pay attention to what I had just read. The Universe always lets you know when you should be listening. It is our job to act.

I tried to be careful to get all the links right. I only put one blog for each publisher. Some of you have 2,3,...10 blogs(I applaud your dedication.)I would have been up all night so I listed the blog that I visit most often. By the way...if anyone knows of an easier way to put together a list like this let me know. I'm sure there is.

Have a great day. It should be a good one with so many minds focused on a common goal of kindness. Show someone an Act Of Random Kindness and know that you have improved someones experience in life. Enjoy your "Love Link", and thanks for listening.

A Bunch Of Quotes About True Wealth

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well. How do you measure wealth? Wealth encompasses all things. It includes money, but is not all to true wealth. True wealth is measured by your health, friendships, and over all well-being as well.

Don't get caught in the idea that wealth only comes from money. Remember to take care of your neighbor. What good is it if you have all the riches in the world, if the person right next to you is suffering. It is our responsibility to take care of the less fortunate.

Be thankful for what you have and be sure to pass along the blessings. Thanks for listening and enjoy these quotes.

It is the heart that makes a man rich. He is rich according to what he is, not according to what he has.
- Henry Ward Beecher

Not he who has much is rich, but he who gives much.
- Erich Fromm

We are rich only through what we give, and poor only through what we refuse.
- Anne Sophie Swetchine

Wealth belongs to the person who enjoys it and not to the one who keeps it.
- Afghan Proverb

It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, that is poor.
- Seneca

Wealth is but dung, useful only when spread about.
- Chinese Proverb

It is not what we take up, but what we give up, that makes us rich.
- Henry Ward Beecher

Make no mistake, my friend, it takes more than money to make men rich.
- A. P. Gouthey treasure chest full of gold

The wealth of a soul is measured by how much it can feel; its poverty by how little.
- W. R. Inge

Time is the most valuable thing a man can spend.
- Laertius Diogenes

A person's true wealth is the good he or she does in the world.
- Mohammed

Adversity it sometimes hard upon a man; but for one man who can stand prosperity, there are a hundred that will stand adversity.
- Thomas Carlyle

Where there is no wealth there is no poverty.
- African Proverb

My friends are my estate.
- Emily Dickinson

The Ability To Respond To Law Of Attraction

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well. This is another video by Michael Losier, author of the best-selling book, Law of Attraction: The Science of Attracting More of What You Want and Less of What You Don't.

Once we start to apply the Law Of Attraction(LOA) we have the responsibility to allow what we are asking for into our lives. Losier breaks down responsibility as "the ability to respond."

Many times people ask for what they want but they don't respond to what they are getting. Allowing is the most important part of using LOA. If you don't respond to what the Universe is giving you, all you are, is in the habit of saying daily affirmations.

Nothing comes from routine affirmation. There is no feeling behind dead repetition. Once you feel good about what you are wanting, and you have that image stamped in your subconscious, you actually have to receive it when opportunity strikes. As soon as there is an opening, jump at it. Don't delay. If the time is right, act.

Enjoy this short video from Michael Losier about responsibility.

The Real Cost Of A Hotdog

Hello friends,

Hope all is well. Here's a video that made me think very hard. Whether you believe in God or not, this is an issue that affects us all.

Become An Asset

Hello Friends,

Hope everyone is well. I am very thankful for the parents that I have. I can feel their thoughts, knowing that they are praying for me everyday. To this day, there are things that I still won't do as a result of the whoopings I received back when I was a child. As I look back at it now I am thankful for the "love" taps that I got, because I do know now that everything that they did was out of love.

Todays quote comes from my Father. I remember I was thirteen getting ready for my first day at my first job. I was going to be a prep-cook which meant I would basically be cutting vegetables all day. Not exciting work but the thought of having my own money to buy my own sneakers is what I was looking forward too. I didn't grow up rich in terms of money so having the name brand sneakers was usually out of the question. When I look back at what he said, I now know that he was giving me the foundation for becoming rich. Here's what my Father said...

"Do your job to the best of your ability. Better than anyone else. If you are done with your job, ask the supervisor what else could be done. Don't stand around and wait for someone to tell you what to do. You seek out a new task and do it."

These are words that I still adhere to. My Dad was teaching me how to make myself an asset to that company. It is a good way to approach a job situation. When you perform your job to the best of your ability people notice. You may think no one is looking but they always are. I try to build a reputation as someone who is hard working, organized, and dependable. Whatever job I've had I've always been given promotions very quickly. I went from being a prep-cook, to line cook, and also tended the cash register from time to time. All this at thirteen. Who lets a thirteen year old run a cash register for a huge cafeteria?

The reason I was able to do all those jobs was because I always asked what I could do next. So eventually, they let me do some of the cooking. When our regular cook was sick, at thirteen, I was able to fill in. When the Glenda, the lady who ran the register was sick, I was able to step in. We didn't tell our boss, but she taught me how to use the register so she could go take cigarette breaks. When the opportunity was there I was able to step in. (Remember what we talked about yesterday)

I had become an asset to that company. I could do any job that they needed me to do. It was good for me because it kept me working during the summer and Christmas breaks. It was good for the company because they didn't have to outsource any help if someone was sick, because I was there. It got to the point where the other cafeterias that were run by the same company were competing for my services as soon as it was summer.

I still push myself to be the best at my job. I can perform any duty that they need me to. I want my employer to feel that they don't have to worry about me because they know I'm doing my work and doing it well. You will also start to see that you will attract better opportunities. The most important thing to remember is to be ready when opportunity knocks. I'm making sure I'm ready for my next big opportunity. How about you?

Thanks for listening.
