Where's Your Focus?

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well. Todays quote is pretty straight forward and is the mindset that everyone should have if they want to be successful.

"Focus on what you want, rather than what you don't want."

I'm not sure who came up with this quote but it is one that should be a common thought in all of us. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer is really a true statement. People who are rich stay rich because that is all they are thinking about. They do everything that it takes to stay at the comfort level that the are used to.

It doesn't matter how a person gets his money. They have it because they are driven. For example, someone who is a gangster does bad things to stay rich. They are motivated by their lifestyle, so they think of anyway they can get more money even if it is illegal. On the other side you have people who are rich and they use their money to help other people. This individuals motivation is helping people, so they work hard to stay rich so that they continue giving.

The person who is poor tends to think about how poor they are. They focus on their bills, their bad health, their bad relationships. If this is all you are thinking about that is what you will continue to get. The bills can become so overwhelming sometimes we just do nothing. Not acting does nothing to improve your situation. In order to change you must start thinking positively.

As I've said in prior submissions, start by being thankful for what you already have. When you are in this mentality it is easy to focus on how you are going to change your situation. It is a process. It's hard to change your routine but if you work at it you can take control of your life.

Thanks for Listening.

Keep Laughing

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well. I'm a big fan of basketball. I always dreamed of playing in the NBA. I used to practice being the next Michael Jordan as did millions of other kids during the mid 90's. Todays quote comes from the former owner of the Philadelphia 76ers Pat Croce.

"There's only one thing I like more than laughing. That's sharing it."

My mother gave me his book, I Feel Great and You Will Too!: An Inspiring Journey of Success with Practical Tips on How to Score Big in Life Pat Croce is a true rag to riches story. He is now a mult-millionaire, but this wasn't always the case.

Croce had to struggle to get where he is today. Throughout his book he talks about the steps it took for him to become a success. He failed many times, but he never gave in. He went from having no money, to becoming the athletic trainer for the 76ers, to finally owning the franchise.

In the book Croce talks about friendships and how important they are to him. He deems himself a practical joke artist. Laughter and enjoyment of life is what sustains him.

A few years back, Croce was in a terrible motorcycle accident that nearly ended his life. His motivation to get better was his want to be around his family and friends who made him laugh.

Laughter puts us in a positive state of mind. "Feeling good", is what puts us closer to our goals. Laughter also keeps the body functioning harmoniously. It is proven that depression, "Not feeling good", can alter the bodies capability to stay healthy. It is possible to "think" yourself into being sick. The good thing is that we can do the reverse as well. Start thinking about something that makes you feel good. Focus on that and you'll start to see your attitude change for the better.

Some people say that you can't change something just by thinking or "feeling good". The thing to remember is that every goal is a process. What we want usually doesn't manifest in one day. This is a good thing. We would become to overwhelmed if we received everything we wanted at once.

Did you ever notice that when you wake up in a bad mood the rest of the day seems to follow suit. Nothing positive can be accomplished because your mind is clouded. You may push away the people who may be able to help you. When you begin your day on a positive note, your day will be more productive as well.

A good practice to starting your day off is to say three things in your life that you are thankful for. By being thankful you are appreciating what you already have. Starting off in this manner will set the tone for the rest of the day.

So keep laughing. Make others laugh. You'll start to "Feel Great too."

Thanks for listening.

Get It Done

Hello Friends,

How are you? Todays quote quote comes from Josh Billings. He was born Henry Wheeler Shaw but took up the pen when he became a humorist writer and lecturer.

"Be like a postage stamp. Stick to one thing until you get there."

The Universe must have needed to get this message to me because I've heard this said in about five different ways over the past couple of days. I am in the middle of several projects at the time, and sometimes I feel like I'm not making any progress on any of them.

Last night I was reading an article by Willie Crawford. He's in internet marketing specialist as well as a motivational speaker. He says that in order to be successful we have to train ourselves to tackle one task at a time. I know sometimes when I'm in the middle of a project I might get another idea and start working on that project. From that project I get more ideas and start working on the idea.

I'm realizing that it's good to have new ideas, but trying to implement all these new ideas at one time really slow me down. Crawford says that we can become too overwhelmed when we take on too much. The easiest thing to do in a situation that is difficult is to do nothing.

There is an exercise that Dr. Nut gave as a suggestion for monitoring our progress. He said that one way to track your progress on any project is to write down your goals and mail it to a friend. Instruct your friend to mail the letter back to you at the time you have planned to finish the project. From the letter you will know if you have attained your goal. This is a ppwerful exercise that I had never heard of before. This is why I encourage you share your thoughts as well because we can all learn from each other.

Before I go I just want to stress that we remember that before we can accomplish anything we need an idea. Without an idea what goals are we reaching for? So be thinkers. Always be learning. Feel good about what you've learned. And finally teach others what you have learned. There is more than enough in this world for everyone.

Thanks for listening.

Who Are Your Friends?

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well. Todays quote was sent to me by sister. (Thanks Sis) By the way, if anyone else has a good quote, feel free to share it with the rest of us.

"When the character of a man is not clear, look at his friends." (Abraham Lincoln)

My parents always taught me to be careful how I presented myself. Before I would leave the house my parents would always say, "Remember what your last name is." I still think about it every time I leave the house. They were very careful with who I was allowed to associate with.

Society tends to clump us into groups. Once you are labeled, it is hard to shake it, especially if it is negative. You could be the best person in the whole world for your whole life and then you mess up once, everyone forgets about the person you were and now you're reputation is tainted.

My parents concern was that I could be doing everything right, but because I may be hanging with a "bad crowd", I too would be look at in the same way. I was taught to always befriend people that have goals and are trying to do the right thing. This does two things. First, if you associate with good people, like we said before, you get labeled a good person. Second, you are able to share ideas and attract good opportunities to you. If you are with the wrong crowd, you definitely attract negative situations.

It is very hard to change how people view you once you've established a reputation. In an extreme case, we can look at convicted felons. Even if an inmate finish his time and maintains a good track record, upon release, they have a hard time readapting to society. Every time they fill out a job application they have to disclose that they had served time. Very few people are willing to ignore the fact that they were in jail, and give them a second chance.

Having good friends keeps you focus. You talk about positive things. Help each other out in need. It's a mazing how fast fake friends disappear when times get tough. Good friends stick with you no matter what. You will attract more good people into your life which will make your experiences more enjoyable. So make sure your friends are a reflection of how you want to be perceived.

Stick Your Neck Out

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well with you and yours. I am a big fan of turtles. My first pet was a turtle. I have a turtle now who's name is Banditt. Turtles have always been a symbol of wisdom, patience, and longevity. Here are some quotes to describe the personality of a turtle.

"A turtle teaches us to be patient with other, and to never give up on an issue worh fighting for."

"A turtle symbolizes peace of mind."

"Turtles have slow metabolisms, teaching us to slow down."

"Turtles are said to be stable, and constant in their opinions, ideals, and ideas."

"Turtles are dependable and loyal."

"Turtles are reputed to be very adaptable to life's traumas."

"Turtles are home anywhere because they carry their houses on their backs."

"Turtles have good eye sight, reminding us not to judge any of our relations by outward appearances."

My favorite quote on turtles comes from former Harvard University President, James Bryant Conant.

"Behold the turtle. He only makes progress when he sticks his neck out."

Many of us do not like to take risk. We would rather stay in our comfort zone. A comfort zone is an easy state to be in but you will never grow as an individual. In order to grow we have to be willing to come out of our "shells" and try something new. The problem is that "new" means different, which can mean doing something that may seem difficult. It is always easier to do nothing and stay within our shelter.

The turtle has to stick it's neck out before it can even move. Coming out of its shell means that they are now open to attack from the outside world. But it is necessary for survival. A turtle would starve if it never came out, just as you can starve physically, emotionally, and spiritually if you never "come out".

We can't let fear of the unknown determine how we live our lives. We have to become like a turtle and be "stable and constant in our opinions, ideals, and ideas." It is always easy to go along with what the crowd deems acceptable. If we aren't secure in what we believe in, when we do step out, we will be eaten alive by the vultures.

So be willing to "stick your neck out." You'll find that you can accomplish anything if you just try. As you put in the effort you will start to see your dreams unfold in front of your eyes.

Be safe, and thanks for listening.

You're Always Right

Hello Friends,

Today's quote comes from Henry Ford. He is credited with coming up with the idea of an assembly line to make production of his cars more efficient. This model of an assembly line revolutionized the way business was done in the U.S. He is someone who paid great attention to detail. He didn't have any accountants and was never audited while he ran the company. Ford didn't have any formal business education but he had one thing that drove him to success...The BELIEF that could do it.

"Whether you think you can or can't, either way, you are right."

This quote is so true on such a simple level. If you have the belief that you can achieve a particular goal, you are going to do everything in your power to reach that goal. Because this is all your thinking about you will find that things start to fall into place because you are completely focused. You have a good feeling about what you're doing. Rather than it being hard work, it becomes a pleasure working toward the goal.

If you think you can't, you won't. You probably won't even try. Even if you do try, nothing will ever come from such lame efforts. It is impossible to put a 100% effort in to something you don't believe in. The sad thing is that a lot of us don't believe in ourselves. Therefor we don't put 100% in to improving ourselves. We look at a task and say "I can't". Even if it will improve our situation it is always easier to do nothing than to work on that task.

If we can get to a place where we believe ourselves, our abilities, our potential, the sky's the limit. The fact of the matter is, we have the ability to do whatever we want. It all starts with an idea. So we must always be thinking. Feeding our mind through reading, writing, and meditation. These are areas where you can gain new thoughts and put them into action.

Believe in yourself. Know that you have the ability to achieve anything. And like Nike says, "Just do it."

Thanks for listening.

Become An Asset

Hello Friends,

Hope everyone is well. I am very thankful for the parents that I have. I can feel their thoughts, knowing that they are praying for me everyday. To this day, there are things that I still won't do as a result of the whoopings I received back when I was a child. As I look back at it now I am thankful for the "love" taps that I got, because I do know now that everything that they did was out of love.

Todays quote comes from my Father. I remember I was thirteen getting ready for my first day at my first job. I was going to be a prep-cook which meant I would basically be cutting vegetables all day. Not exciting work but the thought of having my own money to buy my own sneakers is what I was looking forward too. I didn't grow up rich in terms of money so having the name brand sneakers was usually out of the question. When I look back at what he said, I now know that he was giving me the foundation for becoming rich. Here's what my Father said...

"Do your job to the best of your ability. Better than anyone else. If you are done with your job, ask the supervisor what else could be done. Don't stand around and wait for someone to tell you what to do. You seek out a new task and do it."

These are words that I still adhere to. My Dad was teaching me how to make myself an asset to that company. It is a good way to approach a job situation. When you perform your job to the best of your ability people notice. You may think no one is looking but they always are. I try to build a reputation as someone who is hard working, organized, and dependable. Whatever job I've had I've always been given promotions very quickly. I went from being a prep-cook, to line cook, and also tended the cash register from time to time. All this at thirteen. Who lets a thirteen year old run a cash register for a huge cafeteria?

The reason I was able to do all those jobs was because I always asked what I could do next. So eventually, they let me do some of the cooking. When our regular cook was sick, at thirteen, I was able to fill in. When the Glenda, the lady who ran the register was sick, I was able to step in. We didn't tell our boss, but she taught me how to use the register so she could go take cigarette breaks. When the opportunity was there I was able to step in. (Remember what we talked about yesterday)

I had become an asset to that company. I could do any job that they needed me to do. It was good for me because it kept me working during the summer and Christmas breaks. It was good for the company because they didn't have to outsource any help if someone was sick, because I was there. It got to the point where the other cafeterias that were run by the same company were competing for my services as soon as it was summer.

I still push myself to be the best at my job. I can perform any duty that they need me to. I want my employer to feel that they don't have to worry about me because they know I'm doing my work and doing it well. You will also start to see that you will attract better opportunities. The most important thing to remember is to be ready when opportunity knocks. I'm making sure I'm ready for my next big opportunity. How about you?

Thanks for listening.

Preparation Meets Opportunity

Hello Friends,

I hope you are all doing well. Our daily quote comes from Confucius. He was a Chinese philosopher who was know for speaking about personal and governmental morality. He focused on the correctness of social relationships, justice, and sincerity. We can take a lot from what this great philosopher had to teach us and apply it to our own lives. Here's one...

"Success depends upon previous preparation, and without such preparation there is sure to be failure."

This quote is so true in respect to my own personal experience. One exercise that all motivational speakers and others tell you do as a prelude to success is to set goals and to actually write them down. This has always been hard for me. Sometimes when I sit down to write them I know what I want but don't know how to get there.

Setting realistic goals starts you on the right track to success. As you set goals and achieve these goals, you are actually preparing yourself for when you reach your ultimate goal. Each step in the process brings you closer, makes you wiser, and brings a sense of confidence that one should have when fulfilling a dream.

Some of us look at successful people and say that they just got lucky and fell into a good opportunity. I don't believe in luck anymore. Luck is nothing more than preparation and opportunity come together.

For example, some people say that a lot of the amazing shots that Michael Jordan made were luck. You know the layups where he's off balance, not facing the basket, about to fall into the crowd type shots. The truth of the matter is that Jordan was a gym rat. He was always practicing. That is what set him apart from other players. He would actually practice those shots. He would practice shooting from awkward positions. He knew that if he practiced this as well as regular fundamentals, when the opportunity called for a spectacular play, he was prepared, not lucky.

Such is with our lives. We should be constantly practicing for success. Like Jordan we should try never to have an "off" day. We should always strive for the knowledge that will take us to where we want to go, so when the opportunity comes instinctively we can "take the shot."

Thank you for listening. Now tell me "In Your Own Words."

Appreciate Goodness

Hello Friends,

It's amazing where encouragement can come from. I was thinking about my bills today. I'm a little behind. Nothing major, but it was the dominate thought in my mind this morning.

I have a new co-worker with whom I had never worked with before. We were talking briefly and she mentioned that she had a headache. I asked her if she had eaten because hunger can lead to a headache. The next thing she said surprised me. She said, "You know what, I'm just not going to think about and the headache will go away because it's not real to me." Later that shift come to find out that she had been studying the same subjects I have, such as the power of thought and how it relates to the "Law Of Attraction."

I tell you this story not to say that I now know all the answers to the Universe, and that everything I've thought is right. I say it as an example of to illustrate that if you are working towards being in alignment with the Universe, your questions will be answered. I was thinking about my negative situation (my bills), but I was reminded that if we focus, we have the ability to change any situation, even a headache.

And now, todays quote...

"The root of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness." (Dalai Lama)

This quote may be deemed a little controversial not for the quote itself but rather who it came from. The Dalai lama is thought to be an entity that is reincarnated after death. When born, the "chosen one" assumes the position of Dalai Lama. I remind you that whether you believe a certain religion or not, we can still take the good out of it and find a way to apply it. The Dalai Lama says himself that...

"All major religious traditions carry basically the same message. That is love, compassion, and forgiveness. The important thing is they should be a part of our daily lives."

The Dalai Lama advises us simply to have an appreciation of goodness. Imagine if there were only evil in this world. Imagine a world where everyone is completely self-centered. What a horrible place this would be. The more that we are appreciative of "goodness" the more goodness will come about. It's been said that "light attracts light", "darkness attracts darkness". In the same way, appreciation atracts appreciation.

Think about how you feel when you've done something for someone and you can tell that they really appreciate it. Two people are now in a better place. The recipient of the gift is obviously happy, but the giver is now felling god as well. The feeling of appreciation is one that should be passed along. I really don't say thank you anymore. Instead I say, "I appreciate you". A thank you is always good, don't get me wrong. But when you say to someone, "I appreciate you", it becomes more personal. You are thanking that person for making your life just a little better.

So appreciate and pass along goodness, and goodness will be shown to you.

Thanks for listening.

Make A Path

Hello Friends,

Hope everyone is doing well. Since I started thinking about these quotes I've been reading a lot more. Once you start fueling the mind with positive thoughts, the mind craves more. New thoughts are being born.

In high school I very much into sports. For as long as I could remember I wanted to be in the NBA. My teachers as well as my parents would always remind me that I needed to exercise my mind as well as my body. Of course at the time all I wanted to do was play.

As I look at it now, I understand what they were saying. Just like your body, you must exercise the mind. Reading is a good way to do that. Reading others ideas leads to your own personal thoughts about what the author is talking about. I came across a quote from one of the authors I had to read in high school. Todays quote comes from Henry David Thoreau.

"As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives."

Thoreau was thought to be very controversial for his time. He was alive during the times of slavery in the United States. He was an abolitionist, which meant that he was against slavery, which meant he was against the government, which meant anything he said came under great scrutiny.

He wrote an essay called "Civil Disobedience." In it he questioned the role of the government on societies life. He said, "...we should not permit governments to overrule or atrophy their consciences..." Another words, we cannot let the government tell us what to believe and how the act. We have to know how to think for ourselves and realize when something is wrong, and be willing to do something about it.

Thoreau advises us to be constantly thinking. We need to nurture our thoughts. Just as a "single step" won't get us to our destination, a "single thought" won't change anything. When we begin to think more and share our thoughts with others that is when growth begins. If Thoreau had only thought once that slavery was wrong, nothing would have happened. But because he thought about this constantly and shared his ideas with others and and they shared those ideas with others and so on, he was able to be a part of a movement that led to the end of slavery as they knew it.

So keep walking. Keep thinking. Keep living. Tell me what you think...In Your Own Words.

Thanks for listening.

BIg Buckets Of Blessings

Hello Friends,

Hope everyone is doing just fine. As I talked about yesterday, writing out your thoughts breeds new thoughts and ideas. There are going to be many interpretations for the quotes that I give you on a daily basis. I would like to hear your take on these quotes. That is why it is called, "In Our Own Words." This is not a blog to decide which religion or doctrine is correct. I will be pulling quotes from many different sources. What I'm hoping is that we can get as many takes on these quotes from as many different angles as possible. We need to learn from each other. We have to learn how to take the good from others opinions. As I said before I want this to be a forum where we can share ideas. As we begin to share ideas in a positive manner, we will start to see that we are not so different and all very much the same. Here's todays quote...

"Asking is the beginning of receiving. Make sure you don't go to the ocean with a teaspoon. At least take a bucket so the kids won't laugh at you." (Jim Rohn)

I really like Jim Rohn. He is an amazing motivational speaker. He has spoken to millions of people about improving their lives. His "Philosophy of Living" is a must hear. I pop it in from time to time to help keep me focused on my goals. He gives you detailed techniques that will help you become successful in all aspects of life.

If you want anything in life you have to ask for it. In order to receive you have to take action. That action is the asking part of it. This can be hard sometimes, because like they say, "you get what you ask for." I think it's best to be specific about what we want and then from there map out the steps or process that will get you to what yo want. Ask for whatever it is and then start to feel good about already having what you are seeking. It is these good feelings that you keep you focused on reaching or getting what you want.

Now, Jim Rohn suggest that you dream big. As I said before, you will get what you ask for, so don't ask for a teaspoons worth of blessings. Grab a big bucket and try to fill that up. Why limit yourself. This is the thing that I'm dealing with the most. I've always been content with what I have. Every year my Mom asks me what I want for my birthday. My normal response was, 'Nothing, I have everything I need to get by."

As I look at it now, that is exactly what I had. Just enough to get by. I got what asked for. Just enough. I would wonder why can't I be more successful. How come all of my projects seem to fizzle out so fast? I realize now that it is ok to ask for more. I now have a huge bucket that I'm trying to fill to overflowing. It's hard to stay focused on high goals, but you have to work hard to stay in a positive mind frame. Soon it won't be hard at all.

Receiving is important to. Some people are given what they asked for but may be scared to accept it. For example if you asked for a new promotion you had better be ready to assume the position when given to you. That's why it's important to be careful what you ask for. In this situation I would ask for the big promotion, but also the ability to handle the new responsibilities associated with that position, so that when presented with the opportunity, you are ready to hop right in .

My parents told me to never pray for patience, but rather the wisdom to deal with trying situations and individuals. If you pray for just patience you will find that your patience will be constantly tested. We can only be tested for so long before we may react in a negative manner. So be careful and specific with what you ask for and be ready to receive.

Thanks for listening.

The Power Of Attitude

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well. Before I give you todays quote, I just wanted to again encourage you to share your interpretations of these quotes. Not for my benefit but rather for your own. As I collect quotes I write a brief description for each one. When I first started it took me about three hours to write just two paragraphs. At first it seems incredibly hard to put your thoughts into words, but just try. What you will notice is as you start to write ideas will start coming into your mind. New thoughts will come, old thoughts will resurface. Writing is a form a creation. And that's our goal. We want to create our own destinies.

In todays society we are constantly told what to do, what to like, how to act. The media is constantly bombarding us with things that keep us from thinking for ouselves. We are told what to eat, what music to listen to, how we should look. Because of this people are no longer their own person but rather the person society says they should be. We are writing less. Original music is on the decline. Just look at how many re-mixes are out there. We are just regurgitating the past to form the future. But there is no future when you're living in the past. I say don't let anybody tell you what you're supposed to be but rather take it upon yourself to become that you want to be. Now for the quote of the day.

The Power Of Attitude.

"Our lives are not determined by what happens to us, but how we react to what happens. Not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thought, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst...A spark that creates extraordinary results."

I not sure who wrote this, but I got it form a co-worker of mine and she got it from the Sky Mall magazine aboard an airplane. I'm sure we've all seen the inspirational pictures and quotes they have. It's amazing where inspiration comes from. One day things weren't going to well. My focus was not where it was supposed to be. Shortly before I got to work I changed my focus and started to dwell on the positive. I got to work and she gave me this quote which instantly let me know that all would be okay. By shifting my attitude I was able to "attract" the comfort I was looking for.

It's amazing how much we let others determine our lives. For example I was talking with a friend of mine at the end of the day. He had a horrible day. He told me that on his way to work he got cut off and got into an argument with the other motorist. This started his day in a downward spiral. He got a flat a little later on the way to work. Now he was late. He missed the first part of an important meeting. Now his boss is upset with him. At lunch someone spilled coffee on his shirt. He said he really let that person have it. Later he stubbed his toe so hard on his desk he had to limp around for the rest of the day. He told me he just ready for the day to be over.

My friend fell into the trap that we all do from time to time. He let what happened to him early effect the outcome of the rest of his day. We all have within us the ability to form our days and that is done by the attitude that we bring to every situation. If we stay in a positive mindset life seems to flow a little easier. At the beginning of each day we have to set the tone. My suggestion and what I try to do now is when you get up, say to yourself three things that you're thankful for. Take it a step further and begin to write them down. What you'll find is that as you're being thankful, remembering the good things you have, you'll forget about the negative aspects in your life. Your attitude becomes positive. You begin to think more clearly. Other people notice and they will either join in your positive bliss or stay out of your way because "misery loves company," so they'll find someone else to complain with.

When you're positive you think about new things. New ideas are born. When your upset all you can think about is what your angry about. You can't be a creator in that mindset. Your life becomes a re-run with the same negative events and the same negative people having recurring roles in your life. You have the ability to create the amazing. A life that you are truly deserving of.

In closing I would like to emphasize the importance of being thankful and giving. About a month ago I noticed that my co-worker( the one who gave me the quote) was having a bad day. She is usually very bubbly and alive, but on this particular day she was down. I wrote the quote out on a piece of paper and left it so she would find it. When I came back she just gave me a hug and said thank you. I asked her if she remembered that quote. She did not. I reminded her that she was the one that gave it to me. So you see. She gave me something a month earlier, and I was able to give her the same gift she had shared with me.

Thanks for listening. Now tell me In Your Own Words.

Quotes...In our own words

Hello Friends,

My name is Dexter. Everyone just calls me Dex. You can do the same. About eight months ago I had the opportunity to watch a movie called "The Secret" (I recommend you watch it as well) which explores "The Law Of Attraction." "The Law Of Attraction" is the understanding that all that we have, all that we are, and all that we will become, we have and will attract to ourselves. In the movie several scholars talk about ways we can achieve harmony in mind, body, and soul. Implementation of "The Secret" is deeply rooted in our thoughts, and really the feelings behind those thoughts. Alot of us, including myself, set goals, get excited about those goals, but in the end up doing nothing to achieve those goals. Now I realize why we may not achieve our goals. Our feelings don't match our thoughts and words. We say all the right things but in our hearts doubt creeps in and takes us out of a state of joy. When we learn to live in a constant state of joy and appreciation for what we have, we can have so much more.

In the movie they talk about all the great scholars of the past and how they knew "The Secret" and how to apply it to daily life. They had so many great quotes by people like Albert Einstein, Henry Ford, Ralph Waldo Emerson. These great scientists, business men, and authors new "The Secret" and how to apply it. I became really fascinated with some of the quotes and wrote them down. Since then I have been researching quotes that inspire others to achieve great things.

This is the purpose of this blog. I am going to give you all a quote of the day, and do my best to explain it my own words. As you may have noticed the name of this blog is "In Our Words." I want to invite conversation. I would like to hear about your thoughts and what you take away from these quotes. I want to stress that this is meant to be a positive forum. We are not here to argue and impose on others our different beliefs. We can take good from every aspect of life. We have to be willing to listen because we may miss out on learning something. I'm hoping that we can learn alot from each other and uplift each other as we go through our day to day activities. Thank you for listening and without further delay, the first quote...

"Don't think; feel. It's like a finger pointing to the moon. Don't concentrate on the finger, or you will miss all the heavenly glory." (Bruce Lee, Enter The Dragon)

I bet you weren't expecting Bruce Lee to be my first quote but Lee exercised "The Law Of Attraction" on a daily basis. I've always been a huge Bruce Lee fan, but now that I understand where he was coming from I can appreciate the extreme discipline he had. He revolutionized the martial arts world both on form and theater even when he was told he would never leave Hong Kong to be come a star. If he had listened to the nay-sayers he would have never amounted to anything.

"Don't think; feel." As we talked about before, it is the feelings behind the thoughts that make our wants come into being. A lot of times we lie to ourselves. How many times have we said, "today I'll start that new project," or "I'm going to get into shape," or I'm going to ask my boss for that raise and at the end of the day, it's still not done. We tell ourselves that we are going to do something, but our true feelings such as doubt, fear, and confusion become overwhelming and prevent us from reaching our goals.

"Don't concentrate on the finger." Concentrating on the finger is what kills our dreams. The "finger" represents the "way "or "path" to whatever it is we want to achieve. Along the "way" we come across many obstacles which can quickly kill our motivation. If we focus on hard it is to get to our destination, we will never realize all that is out there because all our energy will be directed in fighting against, instead of flowing with. We can never see "all the heavenly glory" if our minds are clouded.

I would like to hear your thoughts about Bruce Lee's quote. Remember this blog is strictly a positive channel for us to learn from and encourage each other as we pursue our dreams. I want to promote conversation. The more we communicate the more we grow. Let me know what's on your mind. Teach me...In Your Own Words.

Thanks for listening.
